# Following companies: signals and automatic notifications

How company signals work in Prospector, where to find them, and how to set up automatic email notifications about changes at the companies you follow.

*Updated: 2 October 2026*

Company signals are changes and events at companies in the Prospector database that Prospector picks up automatically. With them, you can follow what is happening at your existing customers and at other companies you are interested in, and notice changes as soon as they happen.

### What company signals are

Prospector monitors more than **55 signal types** *(as of October 2026)*. They include, for example:

* New or closed job ads
* New or closed tenders (public contracts)
* Changes in management, such as a new or departing executive or authorized officer
* New branches or a change of address
* Media mentions
* Published financial statements
* New technology: we detected a technology at the company for the first time (see [Technology dataset](/en/advanced-features/technology-dataset.md))

{% hint style="info" %}
New signal categories are added over time.
{% endhint %}

### Where to find signals

#### On the company profile

Every company profile has a **Signals** tab with a chronological list of the changes we have picked up. The list covers everything from new job ads to changes in the capital structure.

#### In the segment filters

When you create a segment, the filters include a **Signals** group with three filters:

| Filter                        | Description                                                                                                 |
| ----------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Signals category** | Select a specific type of change |
| **Signals keywords** | Only signals that contain the words you enter |
| **The age of company signal** | Only signals that are not older than the number of days you choose (max. 180 days *(as of September 2026)*) |

![Filter menu open with the Signals group highlighted](https://247275268-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FYkl7SJ14Nk0vzhVx7upl%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-6e212b6b42cca2ca0efb91a304a632941ac0b7ca%2Ffiremni-signaly-a-upozorneni-filtry-vyhledavani.png?alt=media)

The results appear on the **Signals** tab, and you can sort them by:

* **Last added** (default)
* Company size

{% hint style="success" %}
**Example:** Do you want to see companies with a recent change in marketing management? Set the category to **Management change** and enter "marketing" in the **Signals keywords** filter. You get the companies with a recent personnel change in a marketing position.
{% endhint %}

### Automatic notifications

Instead of checking Prospector by hand, you set up a notification once, and all the important changes then come to your email inbox.

#### Types of notifications

You can set up two types of notifications on every saved **segment**:

**New company notifications:** Prospector tells you when a company that did not match your filters before is added to the segment.

**New signal notifications:** Prospector tells you when a specific type of signal appears for companies in the segment you follow, for example a new tender or a change of executive.

{% hint style="info" %}
You turn on notifications with the bell icon next to the name of the segment or label.
{% endhint %}

#### How often notifications arrive

| Frequency         | When                     |
| ----------------- | ------------------------ |
| **Daily digest** | Every day in the morning |
| **Weekly digest** | Every Monday             |

Each email contains an overview of the first three changes *(as of September 2026)* and a direct link to the details in Prospector.

### How to set up notifications

#### Notifications on a segment

1. When you create a segment, set the filters for your target group.
2. Save the results as a **segment**.
3. Click the **bell** icon next to the segment name.
4. Choose the type of notification: **New company notifications**, **New signal notifications**, or both.
5. Choose the frequency: **Daily digest** or **Weekly digest**.

#### Following specific companies

You cannot turn on notifications directly on a company profile. First add the company to a **label** or a **segment**. On the label, you can then set up notifications for the whole list of companies at once.

### When to use notifications

* **New companies in your segment:** you learn when a company starts to match your criteria.
* **Following competitors:** you see personnel or organizational changes.
* **Key accounts:** you get an overview of every important change at the companies in your portfolio.
* **Prioritizing your work:** the relevant changes come to you, and you do not have to look for them by hand.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Example:** You sell HR software. You create a segment of manufacturing companies with 50 or more employees that are currently hiring an HR specialist, and set up a weekly notification. Every Monday, you get an email with the companies that have just started hiring for an HR role.
{% endhint %}
