# Technology dataset: which technologies we track and how

Which technologies Prospector tracks at companies, where the data comes from, how often it is updated and how to build a segment with it.

*Updated: 6 October 2026*

Prospector tracks which technologies companies use, from CRM and ERP systems to e-shop platforms and manufacturing software. For example, you can separate companies that use Microsoft 365 from those that use Google Workspace, or find customers of a competing system and offer them a migration. Each record is based on a signal we found, and we update the data quarterly.

### Where does the data come from, and how much can you trust it?

We record a technology at a company only where we have found a signal for it. We track selected types of technology, for example CRM, ERP, e-shop platforms and marketing tools. If you do not see a technology at a company, it does not mean the company does not use it, only that we have not found a matching signal yet.

We draw the signals from three sources:

* **The company website**: signals we read from the company's publicly available pages.
* **Company documents and job ads**: mentions of systems in company documents (for example in contracts) and in job advertisements.
* **Social networks**: tools the company mentions in its posts.

{% hint style="info" %}
How reliable the data is depends on the type of technology and the source. It is most reliable for simple technologies that we can recognize directly from the website. For large enterprise systems and for signals from documents or social networks, treat the data as indicative, not as verified information.
{% endhint %}

### How often is the data updated?

We update the technology dataset quarterly. When a company deploys something new, you see it in the data only after the next update. If you are basing an important decision on the data, check the current state directly with the company.

### How are technologies grouped?

We sort technologies into categories and subcategories, for example Information Technology, Engineering And Manufacturing and Marketing. The technologies we detect include Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, SAP, Shoptet, WooCommerce and Pohoda.

### Where do you find a company's technologies?

#### On the company profile

All the technologies we have detected at a company are on its profile in the **Technologies** tab. They are grouped into categories and subcategories. For each subcategory you see how many technologies we found. When you hover over a technology, you see the date of the last captured signal (**Last seen at**).

#### In the Technologies filter

In Prospector, in the **Companies** section, click **+ Add filter** and choose **Technologies**. Expand a category with the arrow next to its name and click through to the individual technologies. You can select a whole category or subcategory with one click. **Select all** at the top selects all technologies in all categories. Confirm the selection with the **Apply filter** button.

The filter can only select companies where we have detected a technology. Excluding companies that use a certain technology is not possible yet.

### How to use the technology data

* **Selling IT solutions and replacing a competitor's system**: find companies that use a technology compatible with your product. Or find companies that use a competing system and could switch to yours.
* **Account-based marketing (ABM)**: combine the **Technologies** filter with the **Revenue**, **Industry** or **Signals** filter and build a segment of target companies.
* **More precise AI Prioritization**: in your **use case** for AI Prioritization, describe the technologies you can work with. AI Prioritization takes them into account when evaluating companies. See [AI Prioritization](/en/ai-prioritization/ai-prioritization-overview.md).

{% hint style="success" %}
**Example:** Do you sell a tool that integrates with HubSpot CRM? With the Technologies filter, you find the companies where we have detected HubSpot and offer them a compatible solution. (For e-shop platforms such as Shoptet or WooCommerce, use the **Technology** filter in the **E-Commerce** filter group instead. It is more precise for e-shops.)
{% endhint %}

### Frequently asked questions

#### I see a technology at a company that it no longer uses. Why?

We only record that we once found a signal for the technology, not that the company still uses it. If the company replaced the system, we may never find out, and until a new signal appears, the old record stays in the data. You see the date of the last captured signal (**Last seen at**) when you hover over the technology on the company profile.

#### A technology I know about is missing at one company. Is that a mistake?

Not necessarily. We often do not have a signal for every technology a company actually uses. If a whole category of technologies you would expect to see is missing, let us know at <support@bizmachine.com> or through the chat directly in Prospector.

#### Do you track technologies at foreign companies too?

Yes. We use the same method in all five countries Prospector covers: the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Germany. How many technologies we detect per company differs by country, however.
