# How do I generate an API key?

Where to generate an API key in Prospector, how to store it safely, and how to revoke a key.

You can generate an API key directly in Prospector. Open **Settings** at the bottom of the left menu and select **API**. If you do not see the **API** section in **Settings**, contact <support@bizmachine.com>.

Click **Generate API Key**. The new API key appears on the screen.

**Important: copy the API key and store it in a safe place. Once you leave the page, you cannot display this API key again.**

After you generate and save the API key, it appears in the table below. You can identify each key by its first 8 characters. **You can also deactivate an API key here** with the **Revoke** button.

**One account can have up to 10 active API keys at the same time.**
