# What is an integration account?

What an integration account is, why the API key for an integration belongs to it, and how it differs from a regular Prospector license.

*Updated: 5 October 2026*

An integration account is a Prospector account with higher API limits, issued to an organization.

An API key generated for an integration is always tied to a specific account. That is why we set up integration accounts for organizations: the API key is tied to this account, and the account has the necessary API limits. We recommend setting up this account with a shared company email address, so that staff changes do not cause the account to be deactivated and the integration to be switched off.

The integration account does not count toward the total number of Prospector licenses you have purchased, because its only purpose is to manage integrations. This account usually has a lower limit on the number of companies displayed in Prospector.

If you already have an integration account, always generate the API key using this account, following this guide: [How do I generate an API key?](/en/api-and-integrations/generating-an-api-key.md)
